Ten of Cups

Welcome to season 9 of this podcast, where I am talking all about the Suit of Cups!

I’m going through each card in the suit, one per episode.

What we explore in this episode:

  • The Ten of Cups as emotional wholeness, collective joy, and the vision of belonging

  • Symbolism across decks: rainbows, contentment, harmony

  • How idealized images of happiness can both inspire and mislead

  • Why genuine connection requires space for both delight and discomfort

In this episode, the Ten of Cups invites us into the dream of fulfillment, but not without discernment. It asks us to reflect on the meaning of 'happily ever after.' This card often paints a picture of perfect family, or joyful community. And while that’s a beautiful vision, it’s important to remember that real intimacy includes challenge, conflict, and imperfection.

Harmony doesn't happen by chance, and joy doesn't cancel out nuances, because togetherness shouldn't be performative. It’s built through shared effort, deep care, and a willingness to hold space for the full range of emotion. The Ten of Cups asks: What does wholeness look like when we stop trying to make it look perfect?

Today's Tarot Pull:

From The Citadel: A Fantasy Oracle by Fen Inkwright, I pulled The Painter (upright). This is a card of productivity, creativity, and the courageous act of turning vision into reality.

The Painter encourages you to embrace your role as a co-creator of the world around you. Just as a mural is built brushstroke by brushstroke, the life you want is shaped by small, daily acts of hope, expression, and presence.

Reflective prompts on this card:

  • What would it mean to claim what I need, even if others don’t approve?

  • Where have I let fear of judgment hold me back from taking action?

  • What would change if I let myself want more, and go after it?
