Nine of Cups

Welcome to season 9 of this podcast, where I am talking all about the Suit of Cups!

I’m going through each card in the suit, one per episode.

What we explore in this episode:

  • The Nine of Cups as a symbol of emotional satisfaction, pleasure, and the joy of embodiment

  • Symbolism across decks: cups arranged like banquet tables, figures at rest, comfort, and fulfillment

  • Why this card is often called the “wish card” and how it invites us to receive with gratitude

  • The difference between indulgence and appreciation, and how to recognize when your emotional needs are truly met

  • An invitation to savor what is, while gently noticing the edges of longing that remain

In this episode, the Nine of Cups brings us into a moment of deep emotional pleasure. Sometimes known as the “wish card,” this energy isn’t just about desires coming true, it’s about being present with the goodness that already exists.

There’s celebration here, but also humility. It invites you to reflect on what has already arrived. It asks you to pause and recognize the sweetness you may have once hoped for, now living quietly in your daily life. A sense of having enough and of being enough.

This card asks: Do you let yourself enjoy what you’ve created? Are you allowing yourself to receive and savor life’s small joys?

Today's Tarot Pull:

From The Citadel: A Fantasy Oracle by Fen Inkwright, I pulled The Merchant (reversed). Upright, this card is all about Negotiation and Exchange, but reversed, it reminds us of the imbalance that happens when we’re surrounded by takers and not enough givers.

This card invites you to set firm boundaries around your time and energy. You’re not required to be emotionally generous with people who don’t reciprocate.

Reflective prompts on this card:

  • Where in your life do you feel emotionally replenished?

  • What relationships or habits feel like a one-sided transaction?

  • What simple pleasure can you give yourself today without guilt?
