Scorpio Rebirth Tarot Spread: What to Release, What to Keep, and What’s Ready to Change
When I created this five-card Scorpio rebirth tarot spread, I wanted to explore what we’re ready to release, what we can embrace, and what might be ready to begin again. The cards brought up familiar themes: fear of moving forward, the challenge of recognizing fulfillment, the courage to leave what no longer fits, and the mystery of who we’re becoming.

Whether you’re an experienced tarot reader or just starting out, you can use this spread as a way to reflect on change and the parts of life that feel ready for renewal.
How I Set Up the Spread
I laid the five cards out in a Z formation and used a prompt for each position:
What needs to die or be let go of?
What darkness do I need to embrace?
What is being resurrected?
Where have I become defensive?
How can I welcome the mysteries of life?
I pulled three Cups cards and two Wands cards. To me, that mix brought together the emotional depth I associate with Scorpio season and the spark of energy that can help us move forward.
Scorpio Rebirth Tarot Spread spread out in a z-formation starting with card 1 in the top left and ending with card 5 in the bottom right. These are pulled from the Snag Tarot deck.
Card One: What Needs to Be Released?
For the first card, I pulled the Three of Wands reversed.
Upright, I read the Three of Wands as a card of expansion, progress, and looking toward the future. Reversed, it can point to feeling blocked or hesitant about what comes next.
The message that came through for me was to let go of the idea that if something didn’t work in the past, it can never work in the future. Of course, repeating the same approach may not bring a different result—but a past disappointment doesn’t have to define every possibility ahead.
I was also reminded that growth takes time. When we plant a seed, we don’t immediately see the full shape of the plant. We can nurture what matters and give it time to develop, even when the results aren’t visible yet.
Questions to reflect on:
What am I assuming won’t work because it didn’t work before?
Where might I be expecting immediate results?
What could change if I let this be a new experience?
Card Two: What Darkness Do I Need to Embrace?
For the second card, I pulled the Nine of Cups upright.
This card is often associated with satisfaction, contentment, and emotional fulfillment.
The prompt asked what darkness I needed to embrace. For me, this card brought up the difficulty of recognizing when we have enough. It can be tempting to keep striving for the next thing without allowing ourselves to enjoy what’s already going well.
That doesn’t mean everything has to be perfect. It means making space to notice what feels meaningful and fulfilling, rather than comparing our lives with someone else’s or always chasing more.I see this as an invitation to appreciate the fruits of our labor and consider what fulfillment really means to us.
Questions to reflect on:
What is already going well that I haven’t let myself enjoy?
What does “enough” feel like for me?
Am I pursuing something because I truly want it, or because I feel I should?
Card Three: What Is Being Resurrected?
For the third card, I pulled the Eight of Cups.
The Eight of Cups speaks to walking away from something in search of greater meaning. In this spread, I read it as the return of our ability to move on—even when what we’re leaving isn’t entirely bad.
Sometimes it’s harder to leave something that is mostly okay than something that is clearly unbearable. A job, relationship, or situation can hold real value and still not be right for us anymore.
Wanting more meaning or fulfillment is a valid reason to reconsider what we’re doing. We don’t have to stay in a situation just because it looks good from the outside or because other people think we should be satisfied.
Questions to reflect on:
What might have value in my life but still not feel like enough?
Where am I staying because something is familiar?
What would it mean to trust that wanting more is valid?
Card Four: Where Have I Become Defensive?
For the fourth card, I pulled the Knight of Wands reversed.
The Knight of Wands can speak to action, passion, confidence, and creative energy. Reversed, it made me think about the fear that can come after burnout or disappointment: the fear of committing again, trying again, or allowing ourselves to feel excited about something new.
I’ve experienced burnout, and I know it can make it hard to believe things might work out differently next time. We might be protecting ourselves from getting hurt or exhausted again. For me, this card wasn’t a call to rush ahead. It was a reminder that passion doesn’t have to arrive as one huge burst of energy. Sometimes it’s more sustainable to build slowly and intentionally.
Questions to reflect on:
What am I trying to protect myself from?
Am I treating a past experience as proof that the future will be the same?
What would it look like to move forward slowly instead of giving up entirely?
Card Five: How Can I Welcome the Mysteries of Life?
For the last card, I pulled the Six of Cups reversed.
The Six of Cups can bring up memory, childhood, nostalgia, and the parts of our past that shaped us. In this position, I saw a reminder that we can value our history without being required to stay the same.
Familiar things can feel comforting. We might return to old patterns because we know what to expect. But welcoming life’s mysteries means being willing to explore what we don’t already know and ask what we truly want now.
I connected this card with the season’s themes of memory, ancestors, and change. Around Halloween, Samhain, and Día de los Muertos, many of us may reflect on where we come from, who we remember, and what we want to carry into the future.
Questions to reflect on:
What parts of my past still fit who I am today?
What am I holding onto because it’s familiar?
What do I want to explore, even if I don’t know where it will lead?
The Message I Take from This Spread
For me, this Scorpio rebirth tarot spread is about making room for change without demanding that we know exactly what comes next.
I see an invitation to release the fear that past attempts define future possibilities, appreciate what genuinely fulfills us, and trust our ability to leave what no longer fits. I’m also reminded that we can remember where we came from without being required to stay the same.
You can try this spread with your own deck and take time with each prompt. You might journal about the cards, notice which one feels most challenging, or simply reflect on the questions that resonate with you.
Frequently Asked Questions About the Scorpio Rebirth Tarot Spread
What is a rebirth tarot spread?
A rebirth tarot spread is a layout for reflecting on change, release, and new beginnings. I use this five-card spread to explore what I may be ready to let go of, what I want to welcome, and where I might be holding back.
How do you do a five-card tarot spread?
I shuffle my deck, draw five cards, and place them in a spread. For this reading, I arranged the cards in a Z shape and gave each position a question. You can use a guidebook or your own observations to interpret the cards in relation to each prompt.
What tarot spread can I use for a fresh start?
A spread with prompts about letting go, fulfillment, renewal, and the unknown can be useful when you’re reflecting on a fresh start. I created this Scorpio rebirth spread with those themes in mind, but you can try it whenever you’re considering a change.
What is the meaning of the Three of Wands reversed?
The Three of Wands reversed can suggest delays, uncertainty, or feeling blocked around progress and expansion. In my reading, it prompted me to consider whether fear of past disappointment is making it harder to move forward.
What does the Nine of Cups mean in a tarot reading?
The Nine of Cups is often associated with contentment, satisfaction, and emotional fulfillment. In my spread, I used it to reflect on what “enough” means and how I can make time to appreciate what’s already going well.
What does the Eight of Cups mean in a tarot reading?
The Eight of Cups often represents walking away from something in search of deeper meaning or fulfillment. I read it as a reminder that something can still matter to me and yet no longer be the right fit.
What does the Six of Cups reversed mean?
The Six of Cups reversed can invite reflection on the past, nostalgia, and old patterns. In this reading, it reminded me that I can value where I came from without being required to stay the same.
Do I need to be an experienced tarot reader to use this spread?
No. I designed the prompts so you can begin with what you notice in each card’s imagery and how it connects to the question. If you’re new to tarot, a guidebook can also help you explore traditional meanings.
Can I use this tarot spread outside Scorpio season?
Yes. Although I created the spread around Scorpio season and its themes of change and renewal, you can use it whenever you want to reflect on what you’re ready to release or explore.
What should I do after a tarot reading?
I like to write down the cards, prompts, and thoughts that stand out to me. You can revisit your notes later and see how your perspective changes. Treat the reading as a tool for reflection rather than a fixed prediction.
