Tarot and Crows

Welcome to Season 12 of Every Day Tarot! This season, we’re exploring the sacred bond between the tarot and our animal allies.

Animals are ancient storytellers. They whisper truths about our intuition, reflecting our fears and desires, guiding us through cycles of change, and reminding us of the wild magic woven into the natural world.

In this episode, we talk about the crow—a bird of intelligence, adaptability, and mystery. From mythic trickster to messenger of transformation, the crow calls us to use our voice, sharpen our perception, and honor the magic in the unseen.

Let’s dig into their lore, their tarot appearances, and the lessons they bring when they show up in your life (or your deck!)

What we explore in this episode:

  • Crow symbolisms in myth and magic

  • How crow energy relates to certain tarot archetypes

  • The message of the crow: see beyond surface appearances and embrace shadow as part of growth

Crow Symbolism in Myth & Magic

Crows—along with their raven kin—are members of the Corvus genus and among the most intelligent animals in the world, capable of using and even creating tools. They’re adaptable, highly social, and deeply intertwined with human history, thriving in both wild and urban environments.

Spiritually, crows are often seen as:

  • Messengers between worlds

  • Symbols of transformation & rebirth

  • Keepers of mystery & shadow wisdom

  • Guardians of ancestral memory

  • Teachers of adaptability & cleverness

In many Indigenous traditions, crows appear as tricksters, shapeshifters, or bringers of insight. In Greek myth, they’re linked to prophecy and divine communication. In Celtic lore, they are battle omens and guides of the soul.

Ravens, the crow’s larger relatives, share similar magic and carry an additional underworld connection—often accompanying deities like the Morrígan or working alongside wolves in mutualistic hunting partnerships.

Tarot Cards Featuring Crow Energy:

While not common across all decks, rabbits appear in several key tarot archetypes—especially those grounded in the physical world. Their energy pops up symbolically, even when they’re not pictured directly.

  • Maiden of Swords | Page (Goddess of Love Tarot)

A flock of crows forms a heart in the sky, representing curiosity, perspective shifts, and the freedom to see from multiple vantage points.

  • Seven of Swords (Anima Mundi Tarot)

A raven appears here as a symbol of stealth, cunning, and discernment. This card asks you to examine your own intentions and those of others, and to ensure that your actions align with integrity.

  • Balance | Justice (Goddess of Love Tarot)

Depicted with Persephone, this card embodies duality, integration, and moving between light and shadow—much like crow and raven energy.

💭 Today's Tarot Pull:

From The Desert Illuminations Tarot by Lindsay D. Williams, I pulled the Two of Wands (Two Chilies).

A figure gazes out over the horizon, contemplating future paths. This card mirrors crow wisdom: pause to plan, weigh your options, and don’t be afraid to choose the road that challenges you—it may lead to the richest rewards.

Reflective prompts on this card:

  • Where am I being called to take a broader view?

  • How can I plan with both intellect and intuition?

  • What “two worlds” am I navigating right now, and how can I integrate them?
